Phyllis C. Williams, 94, passed away on Wednesday, December 2 at Reid Health.
She was born Phyllis Chloe McIntire in Fountain City, Indiana, on February 17, 1926, the daughter of Robert Leilon & Marjorie Rose Brooks McIntire, both of whom preceded her in death. Phyllis was a 1944 graduate of Fountain City High School. She married Robert D. “Bob” Williams on February 14, 1947. They were blessed with four children and 62 years of marriage before his death on February 20, 2009.
Phyllis worked at Belden during World War Two. She then devoted herself to being a homemaker and caring for her children. She was a dedicated caretaker many times in her life for her parents and an aunt. Even after moving to Brookdale, she continued caring for and looking after her fellow residents. She was an accomplished seamstress who created many needlework and quilt items for her family to cherish. Phyllis was a faithful member of the Northside Church of Christ in Richmond. She was a devout Bible scholar and was very active in the women’s groups of the church.
Phyllis will be missed by her son & daughter-in-law, Robert D. “Bob” Jr. & Cathy Williams; daughters, Rev. Dr. Nancy Nelson; Judi Smelser & husband, Rev. Richard Smelser; Rev. Mary Ann Randolph & husband, Gary Randolph; grandchildren, Carri Evans (Eric), Mike Arnett (Mary Beth), Melissa Smith, Amy Charles (Todd), April Manwaring (Kyle), Kiersten Aubre, Sarah Radermacher (Ryan), Rob Wood (Giulianna), Ryan Wood, April Smith (Bryan), Todd Smelser (Jeana), Brendan Smelser, Brooke Randolph and Daniel Randolph (Rachel); 32 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Harry Nelson; one great-grandchild, one great-great-grandchild, sister, Betty Moody and brother, Leilon McIntire.
Graveside services for Phyllis will be private, with interment in Willow Grove Cemetery. Her service will be streamed via Facebook Live at the page of the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home, beginning at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 5.
