Raymond Eugene Campbell, 89, of Richmond, Indiana, died at Reid Hospital on Sunday, March 14, 2021.
He was born in Moberly, Missouri on October 30, 1931 to Thomas Raymond Campbell and Alice Campbell (Spicer). He attended Richmond High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1950. He is a combat veteran of the Korean War and received citations for bravery in numerous actions and campaigns including the Landing at Inchon, and the Chosin Reservoir.
He met the love of his life, Nancy Marie Craig of Muncie, Indiana, while still in the Marine Corps. They were married on May 8, 1954. They eventually settled in the Williamsburg, Indiana area to start a family. He went to work for Perfect Circle (Dana Corporation) in Richmond, Indiana and retired in 1988 after 34 years of service.
In his later years he performed custodial work part time at First Friends Church in Richmond, and at Centerville-Abington Community Schools. His hobbies included coin collecting, fishing, and watching the Cincinnati Reds.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Raymond David (Angela) of Cameron, NC, daughter Jane Campbell Connelly of Fairfield, OH, son Mark (Teresa) of Centerville, IN, son Randy (Mary) of Lenoir City, TN, and son Douglas (Kellie) of Brownsburg, IN, six grandsons, four granddaughters, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorene Riggs, and sister Helen Baldwin.
Funeral services were conducted at the Smith-McQuiston & Webster Funeral Home in Fountain City. Burial with military rites was conducted in Earlham Cemetery in Richmond.
